Just like cycling for fun, commuting by bike lets you stay fit and have fun at the same time – with the added bonus of saving money, and using free and clean pedal power. Riding to work can take some getting used to, but we’re here to help.

Making the roads in Wellington bike-friendly is a work in progress, but you can see the cycleways that are up and running here. With plenty more bike paths and improvements in the works, Wellington is becoming more and more accessible for people on bikes.

Once you start riding to work, you’ll find that you arrive feeling energised. And with fewer cars on the road we'll have less air and noise pollution. It really doesn’t take many trips to offset the cost of your bike, and parking is always free – provided you have a good, safe bike lock.

Getting your workplace on board could be the thing that gets you moving. Try out the Aotearoa Bike Challenge, and get your workmates involved. Ask your workplace about lockers and bike-parking if there aren’t any available, or encourage your favourite businesses to become more bike-friendly.
